Opendata.ch association officially founded: become a member now – Agenda 2012

We have done it. The founding of the Opendata.ch association on 19 January 2012 is an important step towards our common goal of seeing Open Data and Open Government Data realised in Switzerland.

On 19 January 2012, more than 50 interested people from German-speaking Switzerland and Romandy launched the Opendata.ch association at the Bern University of Applied Sciences. Those present adopted the statutes and elected the following board members (see minutes): André Golliez (President), Hannes Gassert (Vice-President), Barnaby Skinner (Treasurer), Andreas Amsler (Community & Communication DE), Christian Laux (Legal), Antoine Logean (Community & Communication FR), Giorgio Pauletto (Romandy), Matthias Stürmer (Parliamentary Group for Digital Sustainability). The board thanks everyone who attended, warmly welcomes the first members of the association and invites everyone interested to work towards our common goal. More information on ways to get involved will follow shortly. The Manifesto gives an overview of our main thrusts.

Open Government Data Study Switzerland

Ahead of the founding assembly itself, André Golliez and Prof. Reinhard Riedl gave a briefing on the Open Government Data Study Switzerland, which the Bern University of Applied Sciences is conducting together with the company itopia ag (Zurich) and other project partners from November 2011 to June 2012, and which is funded by the Gebert Rüf Foundation. Birth of the Opendata.ch association

With the creation of the Opendata.ch association on Thursday 19 January 2012, an important milestone has been reached in establishing the Open Government Data (OGD) movement in Switzerland. 

Nearly fifty people gathered on 19 January 2012 at the Bern University of Applied Sciences to found the Opendata.ch association. After the statutes had been presented and adopted, the following board was appointed (see minutes; for the time being in German only): André Golliez (President), Hannes Gassert (Vice-President), Barnaby Skinner (Treasurer), Andreas Amsler (Community & Communication DE), Christian Laux (Legal), Antoine Logean (Community & Communication FR), Giorgio Pauletto (Romandy), Matthias Stürmer (Parliamentary Group for Digital Sustainability).

Calendar 2012

  • Make.opendata.ch hackathon from 30 to 31 March 2012 on the topic of mobility, jointly in Geneva and Zurich;
  • Annual conference «opendata.ch 2012» on 28 June 2012 in Zurich (with the support of the city);
  • Make.opendata.ch hackathon in autumn 2012, most probably on the topic of health.

Open Government Data Study in Switzerland

The founding ceremony of the association was also the occasion to officially launch the Open Government Data Study in Switzerland, a study carried out by the Bern University of Applied Sciences in collaboration with the company itopia ag (Zurich) and various other partners.
