First Cultural Hackathon in Switzerland – Sign up now!
Libraries, archives and museums are digitising the cultural heritage in their care and are making growing efforts to make it available online. The same applies to the cultural data that these institutions collect as part of their remits (e.g. geodata or bibliographic metadata).
These data – even if there are still few of them – already represent a source of innovation and a virtually inexhaustible creative potential.
What can be created, and how can one innovate, from freely reusable digital elements of cultural heritage? The OpenGLAM working group, supported by its partners, invites you to come and experience it on 27 and 28 February 2015 at the first Swiss cultural hackathon in Bern, on the premises of the National Library.
Come and let your creativity and your skills run wild in contact with cultural heritage. It is a chance to be challenged by the ideas of the other participants, whether they are developers, digital humanities researchers, Wikipedians, heritage curators or representatives of cultural data providers.

More and more libraries, archives and museums are digitising their cultural heritage holdings and making the digitised materials available online. Beyond the digitised materials, memory institutions are also making more and more data available online, e.g. bibliographic metadata or geodata. Although comparatively few datasets from cultural and memory institutions are as yet available for free reuse under an open licence, these datasets already represent an inexhaustible source for innovative reuse. Are you interested in developing new ideas and applications based on freely reusable cultural datasets? The OpenGLAM working group and its partners warmly invite you to take part in the first Swiss cultural hackathon on 27 and 28 February 2015 at the National Library in Bern.
Join in and give free rein to your creativity and your skills in working with cultural heritage datasets. At the hackathon you can draw inspiration from the ideas of the other participants. Researchers in the field of digital humanities, Wikipedians and representatives of cultural and memory institutions that supply data are particularly invited to take part.
