Opendata.ch supports popular initiative for more transparency in politics

Opendata.ch is committed to transparency through open data, including in political campaigns. The Transparency Initiative aims at the moderate disclosure of political funding and is the first open data popular initiative!

Switzerland is the only country in Europe that does not regulate the funding of parties and committees. Citizens have the right to know what an election or referendum campaign costs and who is behind it.

The Transparency Initiative bans large anonymous donations. Parties disclose their accounts and the origin of all donations over CHF 10’000 to the Federal Chancellery. Individuals and committees that spend more than CHF 100’000 on a campaign are also obliged to declare large donations. The figures are made public before the election or vote.
