Open Data update and events 2014

There is a lot of news on open data in Switzerland, and much of it is very good! Here are the most important points in brief.

Federal Council adopts Open Government Data Strategy for Switzerland
Prompted by the work in Parliament, an OGD Strategy for Switzerland 2014-2018 was drawn up over the past months at an impressive pace and with great technical depth, and was adopted by the Federal Council on 16 April 2014. Opendata.ch played a major part in this work and clearly welcomes the decision. We are of course particularly looking forward to the implementation, which we want to actively accompany and help shape. Sports Hackdays in Basel and Sierre
On 23/24 May – at the same time as the Champions League final – the next make.opendata.ch hackdays will take place, in Basel and Sierre. The theme is “sport” – data and sport hold enormous potential, including for open data. We have collected exciting datasets and invite designers, developers, athletes and experts to Basel and Sierre! The Sports Hackdays are also taking place at the same time in Milan, London and possibly Vienna. Don’t let this ball roll past you, so find out more and sign up now!

Opendata.ch Conference 2014
As every year since 2011, Opendata.ch is holding a conference to take stock and to accelerate further development. After Geneva in 2013, it is German-speaking Switzerland’s turn again: on 18 September 2014, Opendata.ch Conference 2014, at the Volkshaus Zurich! And over lunch: the general assembly of our association. More details on the programme and participation will follow; we are accepting proposals as of now.
