“Open Data Zürich” Hacknights 2013

Between mid-October and mid-November, more precisely on 15 and 29 October and on 12 November 2013, the “Open Data Zürich” Hacknights 2013 will take place. The theme is “Finding the right location” and the challenge is: what is the best location for my project?

The first two Hacknights, on the evenings of 15 and 29 October, take place at Colab Zürich, and the third evening on 12 November in the music hall of the Stadthaus Zürich. The Hacknights are organised by “Open Data Zürich”, which is part of Statistik Stadt Zürich and is responsible for implementing OGD within the City of Zurich. The association Opendata.ch and the start-up mingle.io support the OGD Hacknights with communication and open tools.

Finding the right location is the main theme of the evenings. Besides the exchange between the community and the authorities, the aim is insightful visualisations, innovative combinations and useful applications. The events of the make.opendata.ch hackathon series have shown what is possible with government data that is already openly available today. Since launching its OGD portal fourteen months ago, the City of Zurich has continuously, with great enthusiasm and persistence, published further OGD. Let’s acknowledge this commitment and use the data for innovative applications and exciting visualisations!

The challenge
Under the main theme “Finding the right location” and with the key question “What is the best location for my project?”, the challenge for the Hacknights is as follows: solutions are to be developed that can answer this geodata-based question for any topic. The solution should help people make location decisions intuitively. The data catalogue of Open Data Zürich already makes a lot of data available that can be used freely.
