Swisscom launches open data portal opendata.swisscom.com

Swisscom joins the open data community

On 16 November, Swisscom launched its open data portal (opendata.swisscom.com ) with currently 26 freely accessible datasets on networks, communication and mobility. These include Swisscom locations of antennas, public Wi-Fi, shops or partners, as well as mobility data in railway stations and between cantons. Each dataset contains further information on when it was last modified or updated, and in future Swisscom also plans to offer real-time datasets.

Dynamic further development

Terms of use based on the Creative Commons guidelines have been defined for all datasets: “When we share, everyone wins”. Swisscom is very interested in suggestions for further open data datasets and their publication via APIs. These can be submitted using the contact form. They will then be assessed for feasibility (data protection, security, quality, technology, security, but also costs) and for any added value for Switzerland as a business location.

Data protection is guaranteed

Naturally, the protection and security of customer data, data that may relate to individuals and data that we are legally obliged to keep confidential are guaranteed. Data are made available, if at all, only in anonymised and aggregated form. In addition, Swisscom customers can conveniently allow or prohibit the use of their own data for specific purposes online at any time in the Customer Center.
