Open letter on the new smartphone app of Entsorgung & Recycling Stadt Zürich

After Entsorgung & Recycling Stadt Zürich ERZ announced the smartphone app Sauberes Zürich, the President of Opendata.ch, André Golliez, has published an open letter.
Golliez welcomes the introduction of this electronic means of communication in principle, but considers it an affront and a disregard for civil society engagement that ERZ did not contact the volunteer developers of the free Entsorgung Zürich App at an early stage. This app is regarded as a showcase example of “how open government data can unleash creative potential in civil society.” After all, doing so could have saved considerable IT costs and prevented the unnecessary spending of taxpayers’ money.
