11–13 November in Zurich: Jugend hackt Schweiz

Through Opendata.ch we are supporting the event “Jugend hackt Schweiz”. Get your children, godchildren, nieces and nephews excited now about taking part in this eventful weekend. 

How clean is the drinking water at my home? Where are the best skate parks in town? Why do some first names have a worse reputation than others? And what does your city or village of the future look like?
All of these can be questions and challenges for creative solutions (hacks) that are developed and implemented during Jugend hackt. After three successful years at a total of five locations in Germany, and with demand remaining high, Jugend hackt is now expanding its borders:

From 11 to 13 November 2016, Jugend hackt Schweiz will take place for the first time at Planet 5 in Zurich.

Under the motto “Improving the world with code”, young people aged 12-18 work with like-minded peers, using open data, on prototypes, digital tools and concepts for their vision of a better society. They are accompanied by volunteer mentors (e.g. experienced software developers and designers). The aims of Jugend hackt are to foster the young people’s existing enthusiasm for programming and at the same time to make them aware of the socio-political responsibility that comes with these very skills. Together we want to open up data, spaces and minds. Innovative ideas that improve the world need room to breathe and exchange. The open source and open data movement shows this too. We want to overcome boundaries, both small and large – in systems, data, countries and in our heads.
Jugend hackt Schweiz is organised by «Nyanjas», an association that aims to support digital do-it-yourself, in collaboration with OJA Zürich, Opendata.ch, Migros Culture Percentage and Wikimedia CH. Further partners support and connect committed media educators, developers, makers, young programming talents and technically minded young people.
