First Bern Open Data Hackday

On Friday, 27 April 2012, the first Bern Open Data Hackday will take place at the University of Bern. For one afternoon, the around 40 participants will programme applications for visualising open government data. Among other things, the finances of the City of Bern will be put under the microscope.

On Friday, 27 April 2012, providers of ideas and data, designers and software developers will come together in Bern for the first time to visualise publicly available data together and to programme interactive web applications. Around 40 very different people have already signed up for this so-called Open Data Hackday. Participants will include members of the Bern City Council, experts from the Canton of Bern, computer science students, programmers, researchers from the University of Bern and Bern University of Applied Sciences, entrepreneurs, graphic designers and many more. Working in groups, they will use geodata from the Canton of Bern, voting data from Smartvote and financial data from the City of Bern, among others, to develop novel visual representations.

The Open Data Hackday is made possible by the generous support of the IT companies Puzzle, Netcetera and basis06, and by the host, Prof. Dr. Thomas Myrach, Institute of Information Systems at the University of Bern. The hackday takes place from 13:00 to 21:30 at the University of Bern, Institute of Information Systems, Engehaldenstrasse 8, in room 111.
